Congratulations to Nick Cloke snr. on winning the Lyons Cup single Croquet tournament today.Thanks to all the players who turned up with twenty people playing in 4 very competitive groups.  

Thanks to all Croquet players who today played for the Frewen Cup.Two very tight groups produced a semi final line up of Martin Cusack /Tiernan O Rourke playing Tini Mc Donagh /Jimmy O Brien and Betty Hally /Greg Burke playing Barry Connolly /John Hannon Jnr.In the final Betty and Greg proved to strong for Martin and Tiernan and claimed the silverware.A good day had by all. 

The first croquet event of the season took place today.A good crowd turned up and played in two groups with the top two in each group playing in the semi finals.
In the first Colm Mc Donagh beat Nick Cloke snr while Joe Rodgers pipped Mick Webster to set up an unlikely final pairing.
A well contested final saw Colm claiming the spoils and the Peggy Ronan Trophy.
Well done to all who turned up on the day.

Dear Croquet player,

Following ten successful years acting as croquet secretary for the club, Mrs. Chris Murphy has retired and I have agreed to “carry the baton” on the committee for the year 2011-2012.

This year we will again run a total of seven competitions throughout the summer months with the first, the Peggy Ronan Trophy scheduled for May 7th.
I enclose the full listing of competition dates for your attention.
During the close season we have repaired a number of damaged mallets and the hope at posting is that the long awaited coffee/tea facilities in the playroom will be in place for the official opening of the lawns on May 1st.
This year I am introducing a handicap system for each of the singles competitions, the format of which is as follows:

Each winner of a singles competition will be,

(a) MINUS ONE (1) HOOP IN A SIX HOOP MATCH and
(b) MINUS TWO (2) HOOPS IN A TWELVE HOOP MATCH.

All players will start as scratch for the first singles competition of the season.
The handicap is cumulative ie. should the winner of the first singles competition win the next, the handicap will be doubled for the next competition and so on.
The aim of this system is to ensure the all players regardless of experience have an equal opportunity to compete to win in all competitions.
Please note this handicap system will not apply to doubles competitions.

On a different note I would encourage you to introduce the game of croquet and indeed the Rushbrooke club to your friends and colleagues in the hope that they would get the opportunity to appreciate the game and our club.
New members are most welcome but please be cognisant of the fact that non-members are required to be signed in as guests and a green fee of €3 is payable.

In conclusion I would like to thank you in advance for your support for the coming season and I sincerely hope you enjoy Rushbrooke’s unique facilities in the coming months.
